Open Library

Every Friday from 2 pm to 5 pm,

our studio doors are Open.

You are welcome to come into our studio and peruse the books we have published, along with any books we have acquired for our in-studio collection. There will be coffee and tea available, as well as a library monitor that can answer any questions you may have about Candor Arts.

Candor’s studio monitor program is designed for local Chicago artists who have an interest in book arts but lack the space or resources to realize their projects. Studio monitors welcome guests to our Open Library hours and oversee our open studio evenings in return for access to our bookbinding studio, equipment, and supplies.

Monitors are responsible for facilitating Open Library hours every Friday afternoon (1:30 pm—5:30 pm). Duties include cleaning the viewing table (before & after hours), laying out a selection of books, welcoming guests and offering them tea or coffee, answering questions and providing assistance to visitors, and monitoring and assisting any visitors handling books.

Monitors are asked to commit to a two-month program (ten 4-hour monitor sessions). After completion, the work study participant receives a 75% discount on our 10-week bookmaking intensive course.
